The Chicas Locas Reached the Summit!!

I just got a call from our guide, David Marchi and he reports that Roxanne and Robyn Faike reached the summit of Carstensz Pyramid yeserday!

They started up the route in great weather, which continued until they reached the summit. Unfortunately an electrical storm began building so they had to scurry from the top and go as quickly as they could down the ridge. It began raining on their descent which slowed them down, but they made it down with no problems.

The soaked team spent the night and awoke to find that the adventure continues! Apparently Franky Kowaas, our local outfitter, was prevented from joining the team when they went to Base Camp. He had to leave Zebra Wall and go to the coastal city of Timika where he spent a couple days answering questions about where he was authorized to land in the helicopter before being released. He is currently working hard to arrange for a flight out from Base Camp for the team.

As I type, we are not sure how the Faikes, David and Guy Cotter's team will make it out from the mountain. Hopefully, I'll have a new post shortly that says that they flew out without incident.

Until then, we should all keep our fingers crossed...
